I wrote this in 2014(!) and it’s still true. The only change I would make is adding a step for “Climate change is real, and we’re causing it, and you won’t be fine, but I’ll be fine because I have lots of money.”
The 8 stages of right-wing climate change denial:
- Climate change isn’t real.
- Climate change is real, but we’re not causing it.
- Climate change is real, and we’re causing it, but we’ll be fine.
- Climate change is real, and we’re causing it, and animals won’t be fine, but we’ll be fine.
- Climate change is real, and we’re causing it, and animals won’t be fine, and humans won’t be fine, but we can’t control it anyway.
- Climate change is real, and we’re causing it, and we won’t be fine, but it costs too much to deal with.
- Climate change is real, and we’re causing it, and we won’t be fine, and there’s something we could do about it, but we can’t make other countries do anything about it.
- Climate change is real, and we won’t be fine, but that’s fine because I’ll just get to go to heaven sooner.
